Naming Your Artwork- How names can affect your success

There are a few things that you should think about when naming your work on Artybuzz. Your name or work title can have a number of effects on your work being both found and sold…

Funny or Interesting Titles

A funny or interesting title can often give your work something more and make it a lot more appealing to buyers, check out ‘You Think You Had a Bad Day‘ by John Willis for example, quite a simple picture is made into something amusing which is likely to increase it’s appeal to buyers. Interesting or funny names like this one give your work some personality and may increase it’s popularity and sales.

Descriptive Titles

This is another option that is completely different from that above. Giving your work a descriptive name is more effective at bringing in people to find your work from search engine searches. For example, Joe Murtagh has an image simply called ‘Howard Moon – The Might Boosh‘. In the past week, 20 people have found this through Google when searching for ‘Howard Moon Art Print’.  If you type it into Google yourself you will see that Artybuzz.com is 2nd place in the results, meaning a lot of people looking for a specific item can find your work.

It is worth bearing in mind, especially if you have painted or photographed something that people may be searching to buy, that giving it the actual name of what it is could be a good idea, because it may be found through the search engines and then purchased.

For example, landmarks and other well known monuments are good to name your work title simply as what they are, like Eiffel Tower, or Statue of Liberty. Also famous people are good to name as simply what they are. You can make your titles a bit more specific for better results, such as Eiffel Tower at Night for example.

Have a think about the above when naming your work anyway, and maybe try out different names to see if you get better results.
