Today we feature Chris Joyce, an exciting photographer with a very unique style, we asked him some questions about his diverse range of work.

Could you give us a little bit of background of how you got into photography and how long you have been involved in it?

I first got into photography at the age of 13, when I swapped my Technics turntable with friend for his Canon SLR camera.  I went through many roles of film, learning as I experimented and then got into developing and printing my creations.  I then joined a photography club full of oldies and very soon started to learn more about composition and photographic techniques.  My favourite part as a teenager was the nude models, I was always at the front clicking away with my zoom lens enthusiastically!

What inspires your work?

The main focus of my creativity is a fascination with life and my observations of it.

We live in such a beautiful diverse World, where we have such a short period of time to absorb it’s wonder.  No photographer can ever do justice to this, but with our human limitations we try to capture a moment preserved in time, to be gazed upon in the future.

Do you have any future goals?

My main focus is to build up my photography business, supplying a quality service to my customers in the Maidstone area of Kent and after many years as a musician and producer I am very realistic about trying to make a living from anything artistic.

Is there any piece of work that are particularly proud of?

The main piece of work I am most proud of would be ‘The three wise men’ taken in a back street in Egypt, where I tried to give the image a timeless feel and a dvd album I produced called ‘Night Tripper’ by Dream State, which features psychedelic visuals and photography set to techno/trance music.

What do you hope to get out of Artybuzz and do you get actively involved in the community?

Firstly it’s great to see a new website that is supporting all styles of art and not biased in their approach.  It’s always easy to ask what can I get, rather than what can I contribute, yes it would be great to get sales and more exposure in this competitive arena, but I always come back to basics and ask why do I create?  Because I love it and because art surpasses all barriers!

What are Giclee Prints?

Posted on January 5th, 2010 in Uncategorized by Richard

On Artybuzz we often refer to our photo prints as ‘Giclee Prints‘ or ‘Giclee Art Prints‘, but to avoid any confusion what are giclee prints exactly?

Well, with giclee printing (pronounced ‘Gee-Clay’, a french word), no screens are used during printing meaning there is no visible dot pattern. Giclee means ‘to spray’ or ‘to squirt’, just like an inkjet printer does. This is the printing method we use at Artybuzz to create all our fine art prints, canvases and posters, hence you will often see ‘Giclee Print’ dotted about the site in various paragraphs.

Giclee prints are also set apart from standard printing techniques because of the use of high quality materials that produce the fantastic art prints that can be found on Artybuzz. Our giclee art prints are made with the use of high quality inks, papers and canvases. This means that giclee prints will stay true in colour and remain in good quality for a very long time, up to 25 years in fact.

Hopefully that clears up that question of what are giclee prints, and also tells you a little bit more about how our production processes work to bring you all our high quality products.

StumbleUpon – A Great Way to Get Your Work Noticed

Posted on January 3rd, 2010 in Uncategorized by Richard

If you haven’t used StumbleUpon before then it may be of interest to you, both personally and when it comes to promoting your work on Artybuzz.

StumbleUpon.com is a website that allows you and others to discover and share great websites. You and others rate websites with a thumbs up if you like a website, and this information is used to help you discover websites that are likely to be of interest to you when you choose to ‘Stumble’. When you ‘Stumble’, you will be taken to a website that is likely to be of interest to you and your own personal tastes. StumbleUpon is  a great website for finding things that you like and are of interest to you but which you may not normally search for or find.

As well as these benefits of finding great new websites, StumbleUpon can also be used to promote your work on Artybuzz. If you use the ‘Share’ button in the top right of each page on the main Artybuzz website, you will be able to give Artybuzz.com a thumbs up rating, or give your own profile page and individual work pages thumbs up ratings. If you choose some tags or keywords to describe your work when you give the thumbs up, then this will help attract people to your page and to Artybuzz who may then go on to buy your work.

It’s a really great tool, because it matches people’s interests with relevent web pages and websites. If you stumble page on Artybuzz with a painting of yours for example, and use the tag ‘landscape watercolour’, people with an interest in landscape watercolours will find your work, meaning there is a great chance they will like it and potentially buy your work. We see people finding Artybuzz through stumbleupon all the time so it’s definitely worth seeing if it can help you for your own work pages and profile pages. Use the share button to try it out and see if the views of your work increase, let us know if it helps too…

Have you 'Stumbled' your profile page or work pages, and did it work?
